A blend of 85- and 45-year-old vines with 10% whole clusters, the 2019 Beaune Les Epenottes 1er Cru was matured in 30% new oak. It is tightly wound on the nose with earthy red berry fruit and touches of damp soil/autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit tinged with a splash of balsamic towards the finish. Modest length, this is a fine, quite sturdy Beaune Premier Cru that will need cellaring.
